It was a black Saturday in Oworonshoki area of Lagos when some land grabbers (otherwise known as Omo Onile), allegedly murdered one Mr. Samsondeen Ali, a former councillor under the All Progressives Congress (APC) over the demand of N5,000.
A source close to the scene of the incident told our correspondent yesterday that the assailants, who claimed to be Omo Onile, had demanded the sum of N5,000 from the deceased before he could be allowed to continue to erect a small fence for security purposes in his house situated in the area, reports Daily Independent.
Ali was a councilor in Ward B Area of Oworonshoki until recently.
It was gathered that while Ali pleaded with them, the suspects, one Nurudeen Suraju and Mr. Lukmon Taiwo (A.K.A Bobalabe), allegedly hit him with a plank on the head, while he was also hit on the chest with a shovel collected from one of the artisans working for him.
The attack, it was learnt, led the deceased to slump and faint immediately.
Our correspondent gathered that when Ali was hit and he slumped, one of the assailants, Sujraju, on discovering the enormity of the offence, quickly put him in his Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV) and rushed the seriously injured to Afolabi Hospital in the area.
On getting to the hospital, it was gathered that the team was advised to take him to another hospital due to the massive injuries he had suffered in the cause of the attack.
In the process, it was learnt that the former councilor gave up the ghost, while Suraju and other assailants escaped from the scene.
But, Suraju was unable to escape the hospital with his SUV, which he allegedly abandoned.
Mrs. Mrs. Ajanlekoko, the mother-in-law to the deceased, confirmed the incident to our correspondent on phone.
She told our correspondent that the Omo Onile had been threatening and harassing her and her family since the demolition of their community.
She claimed, “They have once beaten me, attacked me spiritually, and now they have killed my son-in-law. I am using this medium to demand for justice from the government. The assailants must be arrested and prosecuted in line with the law of the land.”
Ali is survived by his wife and children, who are still in school.
However, our correspondent could not get the reaction of the police as at the time of filing this report.
