Journalists covering the ongoing Osun governorship election were attacked by hoodlums who stormed the polling unit of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) candidate, Dr Najeem Salaam, in Ejigbo Local Government Area.
The incident occurred at Polling Unit 4, Ward 4, where voting was reportedly disrupted after the hoodlums arrived at the polling unit, reports Saturday Vanguard.
The ADC candidate was said to have been whisked away from the scene by supporters and others to prevent the situation from escalating.
However, journalists who arrived at the polling unit to cover the incident were allegedly attacked by the hoodlums.
Vehicles belonging to some of the journalists reportedly had their windscreens and side windows smashed during the attack.
Some reporters were also said to have narrowly escaped being physically assaulted as the hoodlums allegedly went on a rampage.
The development forced electoral officials to suspend voting at the polling unit amid the tense atmosphere.
As of the time of filing this report, the identities of those behind the attack and the extent of injuries, if any, could not be immediately ascertained.
