Reps minority caucus disowns opposition coalition

•House of Representatives

The House of Representatives minority caucus, as well as the Peoples Democratic Party ( PDP) caucus, have disowned the Coalition of Opposition lawmakers in the House.

The minority caucus, in a statement signed signed by its leaders, including Kingsley Chinda, minority leader; Ali Madaki, deputy leader; Ali Isah J.C, minority whip and George Ozodinobi, deputy minority whip, said the Coalition of Opposition lawmakers was not known to the parliament.

The opposition leaders, apparently reacting to a press briefing, by the spokesman of the Coalition of Opposition Lawmakers, Ikenga Ugochinyere and five others, yesterday, said their demands do not represent the position of the minority caucus, reports Daily Sun.

The Ugochinyere group, at the press briefing, had demanded for the immediate resignation of the acting national chairman of the PDP, Umar Damagum, for alleged imposition of caretaker committees on the Rivers and 10 state chapters of the opposition party.

Nevertheless, the minority leadership said “the said coalition of lawmakers led by Hon Ikenga Ugochinyere is unknown to the parliament and both caucuses condemn in totality the absurd move, uncouth and un-parliamentary language of the group.

“That the general public should take note that such a coalition is unknown to parliament and their demands does not represent that of the Minority parties.

“The said lawmakers should desist from further misinformation of the public and be more honourable in their conduct.”
