•Coach Enzo Maresca

Chelsea FC’s new head coach Enzo Maresca has said that his team is ready to improve while also fighting for titles as he marks the beginning of a new chapter for the London-based team.

In his first interview at Stamford Bridge released by Chelsea via YouTube today, Maresca expressed his enthusiasm and readiness to take on the challenge.

“Very happy, excited. It will be a fantastic journey,” Maresca stated, emphasising his eagerness to start working with the squad.

The Italian coach, who joins Chelsea after a successful stint at Leicester City, highlighted the importance of his first week at the club, familiarising himself with the surroundings and personnel.

Maresca showed particular excitement about working with Chelsea’s talented squad.

“One of the reasons I’m here is because I’m convinced that the squad is very good,” he said.

The new coach further stressed the importance of player development, stating, “If you can improve players, that means that you improve the team.”

Discussing his coaching philosophy, Maresca emphasised the significance of a clear playing style.

While acknowledging his success at Leicester, he was quick to point out, “It’s already finished now. New chapter, new squad, new club.”

The Italian coach aims to continue the winning mentality at Chelsea, understanding the club’s high expectations.

“When you join a club like Chelsea, you have to know that it’s a club that has to win,” Maresca affirmed.

He said that he aims to compete with the top clubs fighting for titles. Maresca also highlighted the importance of creating a strong bond with Chelsea supporters.

“We need to create as soon as possible the right mentality, the right culture that the fans can be proud of,” he explained.

The coach noted his aims to implement an aggressive style both on and off the ball to forge a connection between the fans and the team. Maresca added that he looks forward to working closely with the players.

“It’s always different when you spend day by day with the person,” he noted, stating the importance of building relationships beyond what can be observed in games.

In his message to Chelsea fans, Maresca called for patience and support.

“Just trust the process, trust the idea. Being behind the team, for sure we’re going to enjoy our journey,” he said.
