Wike commends protesters for shunning violence in Abuja

The FrontierThe FrontierAugust 1, 2024 3731 Minutes read0

•FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike

The FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike has commended protesters in the nation’s capital for shunning violence and choosing peace

Wike stated this during the presentation of staff of office to the newly appointed graded chiefs In the FCT, reports Channels TV.

He reiterates the federal government’s readiness to dialogue with the protesters.

He also said President Bola Tinubu’s administration is taking necessary measures to alleviate the hardship of Nigerians

This is as protesters in some states across the country took to the streets today, to protest against hunger and hardship.

However, despite the traction gained by the protest, some states have ignored the protests, and are going about their businesses as usual.

For instance, youths in Bayelsa State were said to have ignored the protest, eliciting praises from the State Governor, Senator Douye Diri.

He praised the Bayelsa youths for heeding his call to abstain from the protests, emphasising that their choice reflected a commitment to peace and stability in the state.

Governor Diri expressed concerns over the origins of the protest activities, alleging that they were being instigated by political figures who lost in the 2023 governorship election. According to him, these politicians were leveraging the nationwide unrest to foment chaos in Bayelsa.

“These individuals do not have the welfare of the state at heart. They seek to disrupt the peace and progress we have been working hard to maintain,” Governor Diri asserted.
