Emir Sanusi laments hardship protest, calls for calm

The FrontierThe FrontierAugust 2, 2024 2380 Minutes read0

•Emir Sanusi

The Emir of Kano, Malam Muhammad Sanusi II, has expressed sadness and concern over the hunger nationwide protest that turned violent in Kano, resulting in loss of lives and property destruction.

He described the incident as “sadden and pathetic” and a setback for the state’s socio-economic development.

Emir Sanusi addressed the press at his palace, stating that the protest was hijacked by miscreants and agents of destruction, leading to chaos and destruction of properties belonging to the people of Kano.

He emphasised that the funds used to repair the damage could have been invested in poverty alleviation, education, and nutrition.

The Emir also mentioned the destruction of the Digital Centre of Excellence, built by the Nigerian Communication Commission (NCC), which was meant to provide digital training and education to youths.

He called on the people of Kano to refrain from further violence and urged parents, ward heads, Imams, and district heads to educate their communities on the negative consequences of such actions.

He emphasised the need for collective responsibility to prevent similar incidents and promote development in Kano.
