JUST IN: Soldiers take over Suleja

The FrontierThe FrontierAugust 5, 2024 4611 Minutes read0

•Soldiers

As the #Endbadgovernance protest in Nigeria enters, Soldiers and pockets of protesters were reported to have clashed on the Abuja-Kaduna road just as Soldiers have taken over Suleja town to Forestall any break down of law and order.

Our correspondent reliably gathered that during the clash along the Highway, one person was suspected to have been killed while another was set ablaze, reports Vanguard.

The actual identity of the casualties and who was responsible for their death could not be ascertained as at the time of going to Press.

Besides those suspected to have died, some other people suspected to be part of the protesters were said to have sustained injuries.

During the clash, vehicular movement on the ever busy Highway was disrupted but the Soldiers later dispersed the protesters for smooth movement of vehicles to and fro Kaduna and Abuja.

In Suleja town, there was tension in the area in the early hours of today as some youths planned to embark on another protest.

Our Correspondent gathered that the relations of those who lost their lives last Thursday with some youths had planned to protest against the killings of their loved ones when the protest took off. Intelligent reports had led to the prompt security beef up in the town with armed soldiers drafted to the town to protect life and property of the people.

Besides the Military presence, armed policemen were also on alert keeping vigil.

Last Thursday, some protesters were reported dead during a faceoff with the police while trying to carry their onslaught to the “A’ Division of the Police in the town after smashing the windscreen of official vehicle of the Area Commander.

The state Police Command had last week said it was not aware of any death but confirmed the burning and looting of Tafa local government Secretariat along Kaduna- Abuja road which is s stone throw to Suleja.

Public Relations Officer Superintendent of Police Wasiu Abiodun when contacted confirmed reason behind the heavy security presence in Suleja.

According to him, “some youths tried to assemble in the town for protest but the police succeeded in dispersing them immediately”
