Mob overpower police, kill 2 murder suspects

The FrontierThe FrontierAugust 20, 2024 2071 Minutes read0

There was a case of conspiracy, armed robbery and culpable homicide on August 18, 2024 at about 2200hrs; when the police in Misau, Bauchi State, said it received information from a good samaritan.

According to him, he saw a body lying down in a pool of blood in Anguwan Agwaluma on the outskirts of Misau town, reports Channels TV.

On receiving the information, the DPO, Misau Police Division led a team of detectives to the scene and discovered that the victim’s throat was stilted and cut with a knife.

The detectives moved the body to the general hospital, Misau where he was confirmed dead by a medical doctor.

The victim was later identified as 25-year-old Muhammad Jibir of Sabon Layi in Misau town, a commercial motorcycle operator popularly called Achaba.

His motorcycle, Boxer, was snatched and carted away by suspected armed robbers. His remains were released to the family for burial under Islamic injunction, a statement by the state’s Police Public Relations Officer, Ahmed Wakili said.

Then, Monday, August 19, 2024, Monday, two suspects were arrested by the police with the said motorcycle along the Misau – Kari road, where they were lynched by an irate mob which burnt one of the bodies to ashes, but the motorcycle was recovered.

The Commissioner of Police, Auwal Mohammed, while reacting to the ugly incident, frowned at the actions of irate youths who, instead of taking the suspects to police custody for proper investigations, mobbed the suspects that were arrested by the police.

The mob were said to have overpowered the police officers and killed the suspects.

“This was barbaric and inimical to the laws governing our dear country,” the statement added.

Wakili warned the residents of the state that the command under his stewardship would not tolerate or allow some recalcitrant in the society, to continue to take the law into their hands, by killing suspects who were duly and promptly arrested by the police for an alleged crime in a dehumanised and unlawful manner.

He, therefore, further warned that nobody has any right to treat a suspect in such a barbaric manner, adding that it is wrong for anyone to assume the position of law enforcement agencies.

“The suspects apprehended in connection with the crime should be allowed to be duly investigated by the police or any other security agencies saddled with the responsibility to investigate and prosecute such suspects,” he added.
