Judicial Service Commission suspends court registrars over land fraud

The FrontierThe FrontierSeptember 20, 2024 2771 Minutes read0

The Kano State Judicial Service Commission (JSC) has suspended a court registrar in the Shari’a Court Department, Jamilu Ibrahim for allegedly receiving funds from a writ of possession fraudulently obtained in order to sell two plots of land.

Spokesperson of the Kano Judiciary, Baba Jibo Ibrahim, who made the disclosure in a statement today, said sequel to the findings of an investigative committee set up by the JSC to investigate the petition against Ibrahim and others, the findings revealed that Ibrahim and an accomplice were liable for their actions.

Jibo noted that the committee recommended that Ibrahim should be dismissed from service, adding that the JSC had suspended Ibrahim indefinitely without pay pending the outcome of his trial before a magistrates’ court.

The spokesperson also said one Zubairu Sulaiman, the Registrar of the Upper Sharia Court, was found to have received N1 million into his personal account as a sales commission from the sale of the two plots of land, reports Daily Trust.

The JSC, acting upon the recommendation of the investigative committee, “suspended Sulaiman for four months without pay.”

“The commission remains resolute in applying appropriate sanctions against any erring staff, particularly those entrusted with judicial responsibilities, to safeguard the integrity and accountability of the Judiciary and uphold public confidence,” Jibo added.
