The people of Ikot Oku Usung and surrounding communities in Ukanafun Local Government Area celebrated a major milestone as Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, inaugurated a 22,000-litre solar-powered water project to provide clean and sustainable water project, today, Saturday, March 22, 2025.

The reticulated water project, equipped with a 1.5km pipeline network, is designed to enhance access to safe drinking water, thereby improving public health and overall quality of life in the area.

Speaking at the inauguration, Governor Umo Eno, represented by the Commissioner for Water Resources and Sanitation, Dr. Ubuo Ubuo, reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to equitable development and the provision of essential social amenities, particularly in rural communities.

He urged the benefiting communities to take ownership of the facility and assured them of more developmental projects in Ukanafun.

The Executive Chairman of Ukanafun Local Government, Prince Uyo Ukpanah, described the water project as a dream come true for the people, emphasising its significance in improving their standard of living. He commended Governor Eno for keeping his promises, noting that the project would play a crucial role in enhancing public health.

Providing an overview of the project, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Water Resources and Sanitation, Barr. Emah Udonsek, and Acting General Manager of Akwa Ibom Rural Water Supply and Sanitation Agency, highlighted the 24-hour solar-powered system’s sustainability, assuring residents that the risk of waterborne diseases had been eliminated. They also lauded the initiative as a hallmark of Governor Eno’s ARISE Agenda.

In their goodwill messages, State PDP Chairman, Hon. Aniekan Akpan, Village Head of Ikot Oku Usung, His Highness Chief Umanah Josiah Umanah, House of Assembly Member for Ukanafun, Hon. Emem Udom, and former lawmaker, Dr. Charity Ido, praised Governor Eno for his transformational leadership.

They expressed unanimous support for his re-election in 2027, citing his commitment to impactful, people-centered projects.

The event was attended by government officials, youth groups, women’s organisations, elders, and traditional rulers, all of whom hailed the governor’s dedication to rural development.
