23 years after, court acquits man accused of manslaughter

The FrontierThe FrontierMay 23, 2025 2320 Minutes read0

Twenty-three years after, a Kano Upper Shari’a Court has acquitted a man charged with manslaughter after it discovered that the charges put against him are not in order.

Sabi’u Aliyu Unguwa Uku was arraigned before the court sitting in RijiyarLemo in 2002 with a charge of manslaughter after he crushed a cyclist, Ibrahim Wada Musa. He was however granted bail, reports Daily Trust.

The case was stalled after the court was burnt down during a civil disorder in the city until this time when the charges were brought up again.

The defence counsel kicked against fresh charges preferred against his client as he argued that the period taken to put up the charges had elapsed and urged the court to strike out the case.

In his ruling, Khadi Aliyu Jibrin Danzaki, answered the prayers and discharged the accused.
