2027: Former President Buhari’s minister dumps APC

The FrontierThe FrontierJune 2, 2025 2311 Minutes read0

•Ex-Minister Mohammed Abdullahi

Ahead of the 2027 general elections, former Minister of Environment, Mr. Mohammed Hassan Abdullahi, has made a surprise move by resigning from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

The 57-year-old politician from Nasarawa State was appointed Minister of Environment by former President Muhammadu Buhari in April 2022, following his redeployment from the Ministry of Science and Technology, where he had served as Minister of State, reports The Guardian.

A seasoned public servant, Abdullahi had previously served as Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice in Nasarawa State, as well as Secretary to the State Government (SSG). He held his ministerial position until May 2023.

In a brief letter dated June 1, 2025, and addressed to the APC Chairman of Uke Ward in Karu Local Government Area, Abdullahi stated that his decision to resign from the party was based on reasons personal to him.

“I wish to formally resign my membership of the All Progressives Congress (APC). This decision is purely personal and based on reasons best known to me,” the letter read in part.

He also expressed appreciation to the party leadership for the cooperation extended to him during his time in the APC. Abdullahi, who holds the traditional title of Magajin Garin Uke, added that he was proud of the modest contributions he made toward the growth of the party in the state.
