The All Progressives Congress has announced the temporary closure of its National Secretariat in honour of the late former President, Muhammadu Buhari.

In a statement released today, the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, said the Secretariat will remain closed until Thursday, July 17.

Yesterday, President Bola Tinubu, through his Special Adviser on Information, Bayo Onanuga, and former presidential spokesperson Garba Shehu, confirmed the death of former President Muhammadu Buhari.

Buhari died in London around 4:30 p.m. after battling a prolonged, undisclosed illness.

He previously led Nigeria as a civilian president from 2015 to 2023 and as a military ruler from 1984 to 1985.

In reaction to the news, President Tinubu directed Vice President Kashim Shettima and Chief of Staff Femi Gbajabiamila to travel to the United Kingdom to bring Buhari’s remains back home.

He also ordered that national flags be flown at half-mast in honour of the late former president.

The APC called on its members to observe this period of national mourning with solemn reflection and prayers for the peaceful rest of the late leader’s soul.

The statement read in part, “The All Progressives Congress (APC) announces the closure of its National Secretariat in Abuja in honour of the late former President Muhammadu Buhari, GCFR.

“As directed by the Acting National Chairman of our great Party, Hon. Bukar Dalori, the Party’s National Secretariat will be closed starting today, Monday, July 14 and will reopen on Thursday, July 17, 2025.

“We urge Party faithful to use this period of national mourning for quiet reflection and prayers for the repose of the soul of our departed leader.”
