PDP zoning: Peter Obi should be suspicious of ADC, says Political Science Prof

The FrontierThe FrontierAugust 26, 2025 1571 Minutes read0

•ADC coalition inaugural meeting Wednesday, July 2, 2025

With the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) zoning its 2027 presidential ticket to the southern region, a Professor of Political Science, Jideofor Adibe, has said that presidential hopeful Peter Obi should be cautious of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) opposition coalition.

“I wouldn’t want to advise Peter Obi; he has his own advisors. At the end, he has to make his own decisions, but if I were him, I would be extremely suspicious,” he said on Channels TV today.

Already, the PDP and the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) have zoned their 2027 presidential tickets to southerners, with the ADC yet to do so.

ADC coalition member, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar from northern Nigeria, has shown interest in running for president in 2027, a move that many have considered a threat to southerners like Obi and Rotimi Amaechi, who are also members of the coalition and who are running for president in 2027.

The professor described Obi as someone who does not think on the surface, but always has a second plan to his decisions.

He said, “It’s up to him to know what his own political strategists are telling him and what these moves are, but I believe that once any announcement is made, they create scenarios.

“However, I believe that in the next couple of months, it will become clearer what informed the PDP’s decision to say that they are zoning this issue.”

According to the professor, Obi’s journey to political victory would require active vigilance and deep thinking to prevent loss on his end.

He also stated his belief that the whole structure is like a play, adding that, “In the end, like any chess game, it may work and it may not, but we don’t know, and in all this it is a tug of war.”
