REVEALED: How seasoned journalist, Ojo Peter died from gunshot wound – Brother

The FrontierThe FrontierSeptember 8, 2025 1733 Minutes read0

•Late journalist, Ojo Peter

The mystery behind the sudden death of a seasoned journalist, Ojo Peter has been unravelled by his brother, Peter Enahoro.

The death of Ojo Peter formerly of Parrot Extra, who until his death worked with Daily Monitor, was disclosed on Oyo NUJ platform yesterday, Sunday September 7, 2025.

His death was initially linked with a typhoid fever but a discreet investigation by our reporter further revealed that the deceased was actually shot dead by a one chance notorious armed robbery gang terrorising the Mokola-Oke-Ado-Molete axis of Ibadan.

In a telephone interview with Peter Enahoro, a younger brother to the deceased, it was gathered that Peter was actually shot on August 18, 2025 along Molete -Oke Ado road around 2pm, reports Daily Independent.

Peter Enahoro said, “On that same day that he was shot, I got a call from the one police officer from Orita Challenge that our brother is at their station, but upon getting there I was told he has been shot by a notorious armed robber operating with a motorcycle.

“That was how we got to know that he has gone, this is someone that went out in search of daily bread for his family, he was hale and hearty, his life was cut short by the bullet of the armed robber in broad daylight.

“Eye witness account we got from the scene told us that my brother was robbed because of the cross bag he had on him, he was actually shouting ‘there is no money in my bag’, but the thief forcefully took it from him and later shot him in the back, he fell on his phone, the phone got damaged, but the police managed to reach out to us through it, it was when I got the phone repaired that I started receiving calls from his colleagues.

“Sincerely nobody knows where he was going but I saw an alert of 10k at exactly 10 minutes before the incident,” Enahoro said.

However, there is every tendency that the robbers terrorising that axis have met their waterloo, as one of the two armed robber syndicate specialised in robbing people of their possessions in a broad day light with a bike was neutralised by police at Oke-Ado very close to the Tribune Newspapers Building.

Their mode of operation coupled with the confession made by one of the suspects that was paraded at the Oyo State Police Command Headquarters on Thursday fit the narrative of Peter Ojo’s case.

The suspected criminal, Lateef Atanda believed to be an accomplice to the notorious killer “Monday” while speaking with journalists said, “I was hawking sachet water and table water in a traffic in Iwo road before I got introduced to Monday. Monday was the one that normally rob people, while I drive the bike, our targetted victims are people coming out of the banks with bags, people coming from the POS shops with bags, the POS operators, among others.

“We do operate with my Kasea bike along Oke-Ado, Mokola, Molete and Iwo Road, we got arrested when our bike developed a mechanical fault around Oke-Ado and while we were fixing it the police bursted us and in the process Monday was shot dead because he was trying to exchange fire with the police, I was arrested in the process, I actually regret my action,” Lateef said.

While giving the details of how the 2 man robbery gang was arrested, the state Police Public Relation Officer, CSP Adewale Osifeso said, “On 03/09/2025 at about 1315hrs, two suspected armed robbers who have been terrorising Ibadan metropolis were sighted at Imolefalafia area of Ibadan with a red Kasea motorcycle with Reg No OYO RUW 403 QD.

“The two suspects were intercepted by the police detectives and during the course of arrest, one of the suspects named Monday, surname unknown, while resisting arrest made an attempt to disarm the police officer but the officer overpowered him and shot him on the thigh while the other suspect in an attempt to escape with the motorcycle was apprehended by the people around who descended on him mercilessly.

“He was later rescued by the police. The duo has robbed and shot at a victim at Anfani Junction. Investigation is ongoing and further development will be made public,” Osifeso said.
