Edo 2024: APC guber aspirant dismisses party’s screening panel report

The FrontierThe FrontierJanuary 23, 2024 3101 Minutes read0

A governorship aspirant and member representing Etsako Federal Constituency at the House of Representatives, Anamero Dekeri has rejected the report of Prof Julius Ihonvbere-led screening committee.

Describing the report as a personal arrangement, Hon. Dekeri said it lacked merit, insisting that it betrayed the true performance of aspirants, reports The Guardian.

The Prof Ihonvbere-led screening panel had cleared only six aspirants, excluding 23 others with the provision that they are still free to purchase the governorship nomination forms.

But addressing a press conference in Abuja yesterday, the APC governorship aspirant declared that he would not waiver in his determination to vie for the position.

The strength of the party, Dekeri noted, lies in its diversity and ability to harness the collective wisdom of its members.

He urged party members, leaders, and supporters to join him in championing a fair and just party process that upholds the essence of democracy and gives every qualified aspirant equal opportunity.

His words: “It was resolved and agreed that the committee has to be fair to all aspirants and as stated in its terms of reference that their role is only an advisory one.

“As expected all aspirants subjected themselves to the screening in accordance to the terms of reference of the committee.

“However, the report presented by the committee totally betrayed the true performance of the aspirants and lacking in merits which was observed even by the State Party leaders who set up the committee and were proposing an appeal committee to right the wrong before the attention of the house was drawn to the effect that the National Working Committee of our great Party (The All Progressive Congress) has clarified that the appropriate organ that has the locus standi to screen aspirants after they procure and submit the Expression of Interest and Nomination forms in accordance with Section 84 of the Electoral Act (as amended).”
