JUST IN: Mother, son narrowly escape death as Lexus Jeep somersaults 3 times on Lagos road

The FrontierThe FrontierFebruary 25, 2026 1801 Minutes read0

•The ill-fated Jeep

A mother and her teenage son narrowly escaped death in a lone accident involving a Lexus Sport Utility Vehicle (SUV) that somersaulted multiple times at the NYSC Bus Stop corridor along the LASU–Isheri Expressway in Lagos State.

Eyewitnesses said the incident occurred at about 7:00 a.m. today, reports Vanguard.

The General Manager of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), Olalekan Bakare-Oki, confirmed that no life was lost in the crash.

Bakare-Oki said initial assessments revealed that the Lexus Jeep, with registration number KJA 39 JT, was travelling from Isheri toward Igando at high speed when it suddenly lost stability, causing the vehicle to somersault three times before coming to rest amid heavy peak-hour traffic.

LASTMA operatives were immediately deployed to the scene and carried out a coordinated rescue operation. The occupants — a mother and her son — were extricated from the severely damaged vehicle with bruises and visible trauma, narrowly avoiding what could have been a fatal incident.

Security reinforcement was provided by personnel of the Nigeria Police Force attached to the Igando Division, who maintained crowd control and secured the scene during the rescue and evacuation.

Family members of the victims were notified and arrived shortly afterward to convey them for further medical evaluation and care.

To prevent secondary accidents and ease traffic congestion along the busy Lagos State University corridor, LASTMA officers promptly evacuated the wrecked vehicle with support from the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA). The vehicle was subsequently handed over to the police for investigation and administrative procedures.

Bakare-Oki reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to rapid emergency response, proactive traffic management, and sustained road safety enforcement. He urged motorists to observe speed limits and carry out routine mechanical checks, particularly on critical safety components such as braking systems, before embarking on journeys.

He warned that excessive speed, especially when combined with mechanical faults, remains a major cause of severe road accidents on major expressways.
