Renewed violence: Adamawa governor imposes 24-hour curfew

The FrontierThe FrontierMarch 9, 2026 721 Minutes read0

•Governor Ahmadu Fintiri of Adamawa State

Governor of Adamawa State, Umaru Fintiri, has imposed a 24-hour curfew on Lamurde Local Government Area of the state with immediate effect.

The decision follows renewed violent attacks and breaches of peace in the communities of Tshobo and Bwatiye, reports Channels TV.

The curfew was announced in a statement signed by the Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Humwashi Wonosikou.

According to the statement, Governor Fintiri described the development as unacceptable and directed security agencies to strictly enforce the curfew and maintain law and order in the area.

The governor also urged residents to comply with the directive and provide useful information to security agencies to help restore peace.

Fintiri emphasised that the government will not condone acts of violence and will take necessary measures to restore peace and order.

He warned that anyone who contravenes the directive will be arrested and made to face the law.

Last year, a communal clash broke out between the Tshobo and Bwatiye tribes, resulting in the loss of lives and the burning of communities. The intervention of Governor Fintiri led to the signing of a peace accord, while security agencies were deployed to maintain peace and order.

The 24-hour curfew follows yesterday’s attack on the Bwatiye community by the Tshobo tribe.
