Religious leaders, police meet to boost safety in churches, other worship centers in Imo

The FrontierThe FrontierMarch 17, 2026 610 Minutes read0

The Imo State Police Command, in collaboration with other security agencies, has held meetings with religious leaders to implement enhanced security measures at churches, mosques, and other worship centres across the state.

Led by Commissioner of Police Aboki Danjuma, these initiatives aim to address security challenges and ensure the safety of worshippers, especially following a spike in religious activities.

Key Safety Measures and Discussions

Proactive Patrols: The command has intensified 24/7 police presence, with Divisional Police Officers (DPOs) and tactical commanders leading patrols around places of worship and high-risk areas.

Intelligence Sharing: Religious leaders are urged to maintain close contact with security agencies and provide timely intelligence regarding suspicious activities.

Security Assessment: CP Danjuma visited specialised facilities, such as the Verbum Domini Pilgrimage and Retreat Centre, to assess security gaps near forested areas.

Operational Security: Following the arrests of suspects in forested areas near Owerri, police have intensified operations to curb kidnapping and robbery.

Public Safety Protocols: The command has reaffirmed that security is a collective responsibility, calling on worshippers to remain vigilant and report suspicious movements.

These efforts follow a general directive from the Nigeria Police Force to provide security for worship centres nationwide.
