Peter Obi slams Tinubu over hunger, insecurity, economic hardship

The FrontierThe FrontierMay 27, 2026 871 Minutes read0

•Peter Obi and Tinubu

Former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has taken a fresh swipe at President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, urging him to stop giving excuses and focus on solving Nigeria’s worsening economic and security challenges.

Obi said Nigerians are growing increasingly frustrated with the hardship across the country and expect urgent action rather than repeated explanations from the federal government, reports The Guardian.

According to him, millions of citizens are battling rising food prices, inflation, unemployment and insecurity, while many families continue to struggle to survive under the current economic realities.

The former Anambra State governor argued that effective leadership should be reflected in visible improvements in the lives of ordinary people, stressing that governance demands accountability, compassion and practical results.

He maintained that rather than defending policies, the administration should concentrate on rebuilding public trust, stabilising the economy and improving security nationwide.

Obi also warned that Nigerians are paying close attention to how leaders respond to the country’s challenges as political conversations ahead of 2027 continue to gather momentum.

His latest remarks have triggered reactions across social media and political circles, with supporters describing his comments as a reflection of public frustration, while critics accused him of politicising national issues.
