APM holds presidential, governorship primaries in Ibadan tomorrow

The FrontierThe FrontierMay 27, 2026 391 Minutes read0

Arrangements have been concluded by the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) to hold its governorship and presidential primaries tomorrow, Thursday, May 28.

The event is scheduled for the Watershed Event Centre, Old Ife Road, Ibadan by 2PM, reports The Nation.

Aside from Governor Seyi Makinde who has declared its intention to contest the presidential ticket, no other person has been known to have expressed interest in the ticket.

Also, Governor Makinde’s anointed successor, Bimbo Adekanmbi is also the only known governorship aspirant for the party.

The event is also expected to showcase all the flagbearers of the party for the Senatorial, House of Representatives and House of Assembly candidates.

For now, all the candidates adopting the party to contest the 2027 elections are members of the faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) loyal to Governor Makinde.

The decision follows an earlier Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between Makinde’s factional PDP and the National leadership of the APM with the understanding that the governor’s men would use the APM platform to contest the election.

Oyo APM recently held its state congress, returning Otunba Fagbemi Adegbenro as the party’s state chairman alongside other newly elected executives to steer the affairs of the party ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The congress, held at UMC primary school, Molete in Ibadan, formally inaugurated a new set of state officers and senatorial executives as the party intensifies preparations for future political contests in the state.

The development followed growing political realignments in the state, with the APM emerging as the political platform being adopted by Governor Seyi Makinde and several elective office holders in the state.
