•Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service

The Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service has averted a major disaster as stationary saloon car ignited fire at a multi-storey building housing a Polaris Bank branch on Broad Street, Lagos Island, Lagos State.

It was gathered that the fire started at about 11:33a.m. and involved a stationary saloon car parked on the 3rd floor of the 17-storey building, which serves as a parking facility, reports The Guardian.

Videos shared on social media captured thick plumes of smoke billowing from the structure as onlookers, including residents and business operators, gathered at the scene.

Firefighters and other emergency responders arrived promptly and worked to contain the blaze while preventing it from spreading to adjacent buildings in the densely populated commercial area.

The Controller General of Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service (LSFRS), Margaret Adeseye, in a statement, confirmed that the incident was reported at about 11:33a.m. and involved a stationary saloon car parked on the 3rd floor of the 17-storey building, which serves as a parking facility.

According to her, firefighters from the Ebute Elefun and Sari Iganmu Fire Stations promptly responded to the emergency and swiftly contained the fire, preventing it from spreading to other vehicles and sections of the building.

“The only damage recorded was to the affected vehicle and its immediate surroundings. No casualties or injuries were reported.

“The firefighting operation has been successfully concluded, and normalcy has been fully restored to the area,” she added.
