No wife, no children, just American papers — Controversial Nigerian singer, Speed Darlington laments

The FrontierThe FrontierJune 30, 2026 411 Minutes read0

•Singer Speed Darlington

Controversial Nigerian singer Darlington Okoye, popularly known as Speed Darlington, has expressed frustration regarding his personal life, lamenting his current marital and parental status as he approaches the age of 60.

The rapper recently took to a video broadcast to open up about his dissatisfaction with having only his American citizenship to show for his years of living without a child, reports Guardian Life.

He stated, “I am almost 60, I have not gotten married neither do I have children. Everytime I see a girl I like, handcuff rings in my head. Is it like this I want to live my life? All I have to show for it are American papers. I do not want American papers out of life. I want family, freedom and respect.”

Speed Darlington, born on March 13, 1984, in the Bronx, New York, to musicians Pericoma Okoye and Queen Achakpo, rose to prominence as a social media personality and rapper.

Since his musical breakthrough in 2017 with the single “Bangdadadang”, he has become a prominent figure in the Nigerian entertainment industry, known for his strange personality and provocative social media presence.

His career has been frequently overshadowed by various controversies and legal suites. In late 2024, the singer was arrested by the Nigeria Police Force following allegations of cyberstalking fellow musician Burna Boy, after he posted a video questioning the singer’s associations. The detention sparked public debate and led his legal team to file a lawsuit against the Inspector-General of Police over his treatment.

Also, Speed Darlington has faced severe scrutiny from agencies like the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) and the Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency (DSVA). These investigations followed a controversial Instagram Live session in which the singer made disturbing claims regarding a 15-year-old girl statements he later dismissed as fictional content created for entertainment purposes.
