Akwa Ibom Police boss reads riot act to criminals, commends Governor Umo Eno for support

The Commissioner of Police, Akwa Ibom State Command, CP Waheed Ayilara, has reinstated his resolve to make the oil-rich state uncomfortable for criminal elements.

The state police boss also expressed his appreciation to the governor, Pastor Umo Eno, for his full support to the police in the state since he assumed office on May 29, 2023.

Ayilara stated this during a press briefing today in the state capital, Uyo.

He used the occasion to list the various achievements of the police under his command, aimed at curbing crimes in the state.

According to a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Timfon John, an Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP), and made available to The Frontier, CP Waheed Ayilara also called on the people of the state to continue to cooperate with the police in fighting crime by always offering useful information.

“The Akwa Ibom State Police shall leave no stone unturned as we battle all factors capable of disrupting peace, law and order in the state.

“We urge Akwa Ibom people to continue cooperating with the Police through intelligence sharing so that together we can fight and successfully defeat crime and criminal elements in the state. Please when you see something, say something.

“I wouldn’t end this briefing without a special appreciation to the Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Pastor Umo Eno for his support to the police.

“The governor’s support and commitment to fighting crime has acted as a buffer towards the eradication of crime and criminal elements in the state,” Ayilara said.

PRESS BRIEFING BY THE COMMISSIONER OF POLICE, AKWA IBOM STATE POLICE COMMAND, CP WAHEED AYILARA, HELD ON 1ST JULY, 2024 AT THE STATE POLICE HEADQUARTERS, IKOT AKPAN ABIA, UYO, AKWA IBOM STATE.

Ladies and Gentlemen of the Press,

It is my pleasure to welcome you all to this Press briefing.

I am appreciative of you all for the nice job you have been doing for us. Your accuracy in news reportage which has made the World knows about our exploits in tackling crimes in the State.

The Police in Akwa Ibom under my watch appreciate the numerous feedbacks you have rendered to us. It is a symbiotic relationship that we cherish and won’t take for granted.

We say thank you and request that you do even more for us.

Below are some of our Achievements:-

1. ARREST OF MURDER/CULTISM SUSPECT AND RECOVERY OF FIREARMS: On 1/1/2024 at about 7:00pm one Blessing Usang Egbe ‘f’ of No. 26 Akan Bassey Street, Uyo reported that on same date at about 6:30pm, a group of boys emerged from nowhere and shot her husband one Inspector Usang Egbe ‘m’ while they were in the shop. Meanwhile the victim was confirmed dead before reaching the hospital.

Subsequently, on the 4th April, 2024 at about 09:00am one Unyime Sunday Umo ‘m’ of Uyo reported that on 21/1/2024, one Timothy Ezekiel; Titus ‘m’, Ukeme Etim Udosen ‘m’, Indomie, Thunder, Stay Cool and so many others who are members of Debam cult group invaded their family compound at Ikot Ekpeyak Ikono village, Uyo L.G.A and killed his brother one Dr. Udofia Sunday Umo. Suspects were arrestedand they include;

One Wisdom Victor ‘m’ aka Naked, one Sunday Joseph Akpan ‘m’ aka Slot, one Isaac Enefiok Friday ‘m’ aka Chapter One, one Ifiok Udo Etim ‘m’ aka Solowise, one Nsikak Joseph Inyang ‘m’ aka Funky, one Uduak Ime Jimmy ‘m’ aka Messi.

The suspects confessed to both crimes and mentioned other members of their gang that partook in the terror attacks.Two locally made gun, two bottles containing concoctions suspected to be charms and illicit drugs were recovered from them. Suspects will be charged to court soonest.

2. ARREST OF SUSPECTED KIDNAPPER/ARMED ROBBER/NOTORIOUS CULTIST AND RECOVERY OF FIREARMS: On 02/05/2024 at about 4:10pm, following a tip off, Operatives of the Command arrested one Daniel Emah ‘m’ aged 47yrs of Etinan Local Government Area but resides at Nepa Line Uyo. Discreet investigation led to the recovery of one AK49 Rifle, one SMG Rifle, two magazines, six rounds of 7.62mm live ammunitions from the suspect’s residence. Suspect also confessed to be a member of Viking Confraternity. Suspect will soon be charge to court.

3. ARREST OF MURDER SUSPECT: On 14/05/2024 at about 9:30am following a distress call that there was an incident at Effiat Offot, Off Atiku Abubakar Way, Uyo. Police Operatives on routine Patrol mobilized to the scene, one Edima Edet ‘f’ of Mbio-Oku Nsit in Uyo L.G.A., was seen gruesomely murdered by her man “Lover” one Elisha Idongesit Ime ‘m’ aged 20yrs of No. 104 Effiat Offot by Atiku Abubakar Way, Uyo. Suspect killed the said Edima, abandoned the body and went into hiding. The said suspect has been arrested and will be charged to court soonest.

4. ARREST OF SUSPECTED ADVANCE FEE FRAUDSTERS: On 21/06/2024 at about 7:00pm, one Glory Uko Okon ‘f’ of Afaha Ikot Obio Nkan Village, Ibesikpo Asutan LGA, called in through the emergency hotline and alleged that one Donald Ita Nyong ‘m’, Rex Clement Uso ‘m’ and one Kingsley Mathias Joekim POS syndicates came to her POS stand at Udo Udoma Avenue Uyo, pretended to make withdrawal of N10,000 and while she made the withdrawal tothe suspects, one of the suspect gave her N3,200 to deposit into an opay account which she tried three times and the transaction was unsuccessful, the suspects mounted pressure on her which made her to give out the POS machine to the suspect’s to type in the account number and before she could realize. The suspects had withdrawn the sum of N320,000.00 from her machine and quickly jumped into their waiting car and zoomed off. Suspects were arrested, they all made useful statements and have confessed to the crime. Suspect will be arraigned in court as soon as investigation is completed.

5. ARREST OF SUSPECTED KIDNAPPERS: Following credible intelligence on a planned kidnapping and collection One Hundred and Fifty Million Naira from a man (name withheld) 32yrs. Operatives of the Command switfy intercepted one Toyota Hiace Bus, White Colour and arrested one Emmanuel Augustine Akpayak ‘m’ aged 27yrs, one Echem Ovurizichi Weneka ‘m’ aged 27yrs, one Promise Udofia ‘m’ aged 28yrs and one Jeremiah Johnson Okon ‘m’ 38yrs. Investigation revealed that Emmaneul Augustine Akpayak had arranged for the kidnap and killing of the would-be victim by engaging men on arms and procuring EFCC vest/uniform for the Operation. Victim was invited and a search was conducted at the principal suspect’s house where four pairs of EFCC vest were recovered. Information at hand indicates that the suspect transacted business of selling cars with the would-be victim and owed the victim about Twelve Million Naira (N12,000,000.00), in order to evade the repayment of debt, the suspect hired armed men to kidnap, extort the sum of One Hundred and Fifty Million Naira (N150,000,000.00) and also kill the victim thereafter but the Operation was foiled. Suspects will have their day in court.

6. ARREST OF ARMED ROBBERY SUSPECTS/SERIAL RAPIST: On 6/6/2024 following credible information at disposal, one Abasifreke Idongesit Ezekiel ‘m’ aka Michael a native of Okara Village, Akamkpa LGA in Cross River State aged 25yrs was arrested. Suspect has been on the Command wanted list for cyber stalking, armed robbery and raping of innocent young ladies within the Metropolis. The suspect lures his victims through an account on Facebook with the name “Akparawa Isaac Udofia JP while claiming to be a famous Philanthropist, pursuade the victims to close areas within Pepsi Junction, Etinan Road by Beulah School, Ekom Iman axis, Nkara village in Ikono LGA and within Uyo metropolis, raped, film nude videos, robbed the victims of their phones and valuables. Suspect has confessed to the crime and effort is ongoing to arrest his accomplices.

7. ARREST OF CHILD TRAFFICKING SYNDICATES: On the 09/5/2024 at about 2:30pm, acting on credible intelligence, Operatives of the Command arrested one Michael Emmanuel Edet ‘m’, one Ability Henry Tom ‘f’ and one Uwem udoh Moses ‘f’ from their hideouts within Ibesikpo and Aka Etinan road for stealing a child (name withheld) ‘m’ 12yrs while he was hawking groundnut along Oron road and was taken to Ovum Community in Obingwa L.G.A., Abia State, sold out for the sum of Four Hundred Thousand Naira (N400,000) to one Loveth Nkwankwo ‘f’ of Ovum Community, Obingwa L.G.A. in Abia State.

Further investigation led to arrest of the said Loveth Nkwakwo in Abia State, suspects confessed to crime and promised to help arrest other fleeing members in their syndicate. The victim was rescued and with others. Investigation is still ongoing.

The above suspects and others will have their day in court.

I wouldn’t end this briefing without a Special appreciation to the Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Pastor Umo Eno for his support to the Police.

The Governor’s support and commitment to fighting crime has acted as a buffer towards the eradication of crime and criminal elements in the state.
