Nigeria’s Super Eagles forward, Victor Osimhen nears Galatasaray return

•Victor Osimhen

Victor Osimhen is on the verge of completing a permanent return to Galatasaray after the Turkish champions reached an agreement with Napoli for the Nigerian striker’s services.

According to Gazzetta dello Sport, Galatasaray have agreed a €75m (£65m) deal with the Serie A club for the 26-year-old forward, who spent last season on loan at the Istanbul outfit.

The Turkish Super Lig champions will pay an initial €40m (£34m) upfront, with a further €35m (£30m) to be paid by 2026.

The agreement also includes a clause preventing Galatasaray from selling Osimhen to any Italian club for the next two years, or face a penalty fee.

Osimhen enjoyed a prolific campaign during his loan spell at Galatasaray, netting 37 goals in 41 appearances across all competitions as the club secured the Turkish league title.

The Nigeria international had appeared destined for a move to Saudi Arabia, but he consistently rejected advances from Al-Hilal following the end of his Turkish loan stint, reports Sunday PUNCH.

He was also linked with several Premier League clubs; however, the striker now looks set to make his return to Turkey permanent after Galatasaray’s successful negotiations with Napoli. The two clubs are reportedly finalising the remaining details before Osimhen can be officially unveiled as a permanent member of the Galatasaray squad.

The transfer saga has been one of the most protracted, with Napoli maintaining their €75m valuation despite Osimhen’s release clause expiring earlier this month. The Serie A club had been seeking an upfront fee close to €50m, with the remainder to be paid by the end of 2026.

Galatasaray have agreed to provide Napoli with a letter of credit to guarantee full payment, though bureaucratic processes have threatened to delay the completion of the deal.

The move represents the end of a turbulent chapter that began after Napoli’s historic Serie A title triumph in 2023.

Despite being instrumental in their championship success, Osimhen became increasingly disconnected from the club amid persistent transfer speculation, ultimately leading to his temporary departure to Turkey.

Napoli excluded Osimhen from their pre-season training camp, with the striker among six players omitted from the 30-man squad for preparations under new manager Antonio Conte at Dimaro Folgarida.

The impending transfer will see Osimhen return to a club where he flourished, helping Galatasaray to domestic glory whilst establishing himself as one of Europe’s most feared strikers.
