Why I cannot marry unsuccessful, younger man – Popular Nigerian singer Waje

•Waje

Singer Aituaje Iruobe popularly known as Waje has declared that financial struggle and younger men are deal-breakers in her search for a life partner.

Appearing on a recent episode of The Honest Bunch podcast, the mother of one stated unequivocally that she cannot date or marry a man who is not already successful.

She emphasised that at her age, she has no interest in starting from scratch or growing alongside a partner.

According to her, a man must lead by example, inspiring her with his vision and achievements.

Waje added that success, faith, and emotional intelligence are non-negotiable.

She said: “I can’t marry someone who is not successful and here’s why: first of all, I’m not in my 20s so we are not growing together.

“A man leads, he leads by selling aspirations to me. I have to aspire to see him lead. And if he can’t inspire me to grow, we can’t be partners. So, success is part of it. Faith and emotional intelligence are also part of it”.

She also firmly ruled out dating younger men, citing irreconcilable differences in maturity and dynamics.

With a pragmatic personality that requires her to restrain herself even with family and friends, she warned that a younger partner would feel infantilised and eventually resent her.

“We will have issues. I’m very pragmatic. I sometimes have to hold myself with my siblings, my friends, and my family members. Imagine if it was a husband? He would get tired. I will be treating him like my child. He would hate me,” she said.
