10 businesses that boom during Detty December in Lagos

The FrontierThe FrontierNovember 21, 2025 1551 Minutes read0

Detty December pulls people and businesses into Lagos every year, creating a surge in activity across the city.

The parties, concerts, and family trips create a rush that lifts specific parts of the economy, reports Vanguard.

These ten businesses feel that impact the most:

1. Hotels

Hotels stay packed. Many visitors book weeks ahead, and the premium rooms go first. Lagos hotels made billions last December because people wanted comfort and quick access to events around Victoria Island, Lekki, and Ikeja.

2. Short-Let Apartments

Short-lets rise even faster. Travellers want privacy and larger spaces, so hosts adjust their prices. A one-night stay can jump to six figures during the peak weeks.

3. Nightclubs and Lounges

The nightlife industry enjoys its best season here. Clubs run back-to-back events. Table reservations sell out. Bottle service becomes a major revenue source. A few top clubs made billions in December alone.

4. Event Centres and Concert Venues

There’s always one show after another. Organisers book halls, open fields and arenas long before December starts. This part of the industry benefits from weddings, end-of-year parties and the big concerts that define the season.

5. Luxury Car Rentals

People want to move around in style, so luxury rentals get busy. Some cars go out at rates that triple their normal price. SUVs and high-end sedans are the most requested.

6. Beaches and Resorts

Recreational spots also feel the spike. Families book private beach houses. Friends plan day trips. Resorts see a steady rush, especially during the days when people want a break from the city traffic.

7. Cinemas and Film Premieres

Nollywood releases many big titles in December. Cinemas record their highest foot traffic and revenue during this period. Premieres, red carpets and holiday movies pull in crowds every single day.

8. Restaurants and Food Vendors

Food sells well during Detty December. High-end restaurants stay full. Street-food vendors move large volumes because events run late into the night. Even small spots benefit from the traffic.

9. Beauty, Grooming and Fashion

People want to look fresh. Salons stay open longer. Makeup artists get fully booked. Tailors rush to finish outfits. Stylists make good money because December comes with weddings, concerts and photo shoots.

10. Digital Payments and E-Commerce

Online payments move quickly in December. People buy tickets, gifts and clothes through digital channels. Some hotels and clubs even receive payments in crypto because travellers want fast, borderless options.
