2027: Buhari’s former Minister Nwajiuba declares for presidency under ADC

A former Minister of State for Education under the late President Muhammadu Buhari, Emeka Nwajiuba, has declared his intention to contest the 2027 presidential election on the platform of the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

Nwajiuba, a two term member of the House of Representatives, said Nigeria’s current challenges require leadership capable of producing sound policies, effective negotiation and strong grassroots political engagement.

He had contested the 2023 presidential election on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) but did not scale through the party’s primaries.

In a statement released by his office today, the former minister said his experience across the legislature, the executive arm of government and key national institutions has equipped him with a deep understanding of governance, public finance and policy formulation.

According to the statement, Nwajiuba is expected to anchor his campaign on education reform, economic stabilisation and the restoration of public trust in government institutions, which he described as critical to national development.

It added that experience, policy depth and institutional knowledge would form the central pillars of the leadership he intends to offer.

“With his declaration, Nwajiuba joins a growing list of aspirants aiming to shape the national conversation ahead of the next general election, as debates around competence, experience and inclusive governance continue to gain momentum,” the statement added.
