2027: Peter Obi not confused on party to run for president – Obidient Movement

The FrontierThe FrontierSeptember 26, 2025 1053 Minutes read0

•Peter Obi

The Obidient Movement has refuted claims suggesting that Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate, Mr. Peter Obi, is uncertain about the political platform on which he intends to contest the 2027 presidential election.

There have been speculations that Obi is in limbo following reports of his alignment with the African Democratic Congress (ADC), which recently adopted him as part of its coalition to wrest power from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

The ADC, however, granted him a waiver to retain his LP membership. At the same time, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), which has zoned its 2027 presidential ticket to the South, is said to be making overtures to woo him back, reports Daily Independent.

Speaking with our correspondent yesterday, the National Coordinator of the Obidient Movement, Dr. Yunusa Tanko, dismissed the insinuations, insisting that Obi remains focused on his political mission.

“That is completely false. It has been firmly established that Mr. Peter Obi remains a member of the Labour Party.

“Mr. Peter Obi is not confused at all. In fact, he is very focused on the goals and objectives he is aiming towards. I have never seen a man who is as focused on what he believes he can do for the country if elected president as Peter Obi. He has his eyes on the ball and will not allow himself to be distracted from his mission to rescue Nigerians from the misrule and hardship they are currently experiencing,” Tanko said.

He added that Obi continues to enjoy overwhelming support across the country because Nigerians believe he represents the genuine change they desire.

“The reason for this is that the country has reached a level of decay where the people who are ruling us don’t care about those they govern. The politicians are not concerned about the masses. Nigerians are yearning for true change and they see Peter Obi providing the true leadership they desire,” he stated.

Also yesterday, the Obidient Movement inaugurated its Yobe State chapter in Damaturu, the state capital.

The inauguration was conducted under the leadership of Zanna Ali Haruna, Chairman of the Yobe State Obidient Movement, together with his executive committee.

In a statement signed by its North East zone media team, the movement warned the opposition that former presidential candidate, Peter Obi, is coming and a new Nigeria is possible under his leadership.

He said: “On this historic day, the Yobe State chapter of the Obidient Movement was successfully inaugurated in Damaturu, Yobe State.

“Despite the downpour of rain, supporters and members turned out in large numbers, demonstrating resilience and passion. The event symbolised the unwavering determination of the people to rally behind the ideals of a new Nigeria.

“Their dedication and organisational strength ensured that the programme was well-coordinated and impactful.

“The occasion also attracted youth groups, women leaders, civil society representatives, and community stakeholders who expressed their full support for the movement’s vision.

“One of the most significant moments of the event was the formal unveiling of contestants who will represent the Obidient Movement in Yobe State.

“The candidates pledged loyalty to the people and to the values of transparency, accountability, and servant leadership. Their unveiling was greeted with excitement and applause, marking a new phase of active political participation for the movement in Yobe.

“Special recognition was given to His Excellency Peter Obi and the Obidient Movement Family, the leadership of the Obidient Movement for their tireless efforts in strengthening the movement in the North East, particularly in Borno and Yobe states. His leadership and vision continue to inspire grassroots mobilisation and unity.

“Towards the end of the ceremony, the crowd was thrilled by a beautiful cultural song performance by Jital Yobe, dedicated to Mr. Peter Obi and the Obidient Movement.

“The song, filled with messages of hope and change, uplifted the spirit of the gathering. Members joined in, waving flags and chanting along with the chorus. This cultural display added color and energy to the inauguration, reinforcing the collective belief that Peter Obi is coming, and a new Nigeria is possible.”
