•Prince Adewole Adebayo
The Movement Adebayo for President (MAP) has urged Nigerians to critically examine the policy proposals of presidential candidates ahead of the 2027 general election, describing the Social Democratic Party (SDP) candidate, Prince Adewole Adebayo, as an alternative with a development agenda focused on poverty reduction, national security and economic growth.
The group made the call in a statement made available today in Lokoja, titled, “Choosing Between President Tinubu and Citizen Adebayo: A Social Democratic Manifesto That Signposts National Redemption.”
In the statement, MAP highlighted Adebayo’s manifesto, “Farewell to Poverty and Insecurity”, which it described as a comprehensive policy framework for addressing Nigeria’s socioeconomic challenges.
The group also criticised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu over his reported decision not to participate directly in the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential campaign tour, arguing that presidential candidates should engage with voters and explain their policy proposals.
According to MAP, the reported decision to leave campaign activities to the APC Presidential Campaign Council while concentrating on governance raises questions about direct engagement between candidates and the electorate.
The group urged APC governors and party leaders to place national interests above political considerations, citing the country’s economic and security challenges.
It, however, called on Nigerians to look beyond party affiliations and assess presidential candidates based on their policy commitments, governing philosophy and proposed solutions to the country’s development needs.
Manifesto Targets Poverty, Insecurity
MAP said Adebayo’s manifesto outlines a development agenda built around 12 priority areas, including national security, food security, electricity, affordable energy, job creation and enterprise, education and skills development, healthcare, modern infrastructure, innovation, transparent governance, national unity and international relations.
According to the group, the document proposes strategies to move Nigeria from poverty to prosperity, strengthen national security and improve citizens’ access to essential services.
It added that the manifesto contains a four-year implementation framework designed to establish measurable targets and monitor progress throughout a possible Adebayo administration.
First 100 Days to Focus on Governance Reforms
The group said Adebayo’s proposed first 100 days in office would focus on creating institutional mechanisms to monitor government performance and identify priority areas requiring urgent intervention.
The proposed measures include establishing a Presidential Delivery and Performance Office, directing ministries, departments and agencies to implement the objectives of Chapter II of the 1999 Constitution, and conducting baseline assessments of the security, power, agriculture, healthcare, education and infrastructure sectors.
Other proposals include introducing transparency measures for public procurement and expenditure, establishing federal-state delivery agreements and publishing a presidential performance dashboard.
MAP said the initiatives were intended to strengthen accountability and enable Nigerians to track the implementation of government policies.
Jobs, Agriculture, Power Top Priorities
For the first year of the proposed administration, the manifesto prioritises improved security, the stabilisation of essential services, increased agricultural production, stronger domestic energy supply and the commencement of key electricity and transport projects.
It also proposes youth skills acquisition and employment programmes to expand economic opportunities and address unemployment.
For the second and third years, the plan envisages expanding industrial clusters and infrastructure projects, improving electricity distribution and investing in irrigation, food storage and processing.
Other areas identified for investment include pharmaceutical production, technology, manufacturing, rail transportation, broadband connectivity, housing and water supply.
According to MAP, the fourth year would focus on completing priority projects, institutionalising successful programmes, publishing audited performance reports and presenting Nigerians with an end-of-term performance scorecard.
The group said the phased approach would provide clear implementation priorities and a basis for measuring the performance of the proposed administration.
Constitution, Social Democracy Central to Plan
MAP also identified social democracy, cooperative federalism, evidence-based governance, public-private sector collaboration and citizen participation as key principles underpinning Adebayo’s proposed administration.
It said Chapter II of the 1999 Constitution, which contains the Fundamental Objectives and Directive Principles of State Policy, would serve as a major reference point for the proposed governance framework.
The group further highlighted transparency, accountability and the provision of basic necessities as central components of the manifesto.
It maintained that the proposals offered a framework for tackling Nigeria’s development challenges, while urging voters to examine the document and compare the policy commitments of candidates before making their choices in the 2027 election.
MAP Seeks Public Engagement
The group called on Nigerians interested in Adebayo’s proposed development agenda to obtain copies of the manifesto and familiarise themselves with its policy proposals.
It said copies of the document could be requested through farewell2poverty@gmail.com.
MAP also encouraged citizens to participate actively in the electoral process and evaluate candidates based on their proposed solutions to the country’s economic, security and governance challenges.
The statement was signed by the Movement Adebayo for President (MAP), which promotes the campaign slogan, “The Roadmap to a New Nigeria.”
