4 killed as cult groups clash over unpaid drug

A bloody clash between Aye and Bagger cult groups has claimed no fewer than four lives at different locations in Ughelli, Delta State.

The clash, it was gathered, was caused by an unpaid drug debt in Ughelli North Local Government Area, reports Nigerian Tribune.

It was learnt that the four people killed within 24 hours were members of the Aye and Bagger cult groups.

“One of the victims sold a hard drug to a member of his rival cult group without payment, and the cause of recovering his money broke out between them.

“The man met his debtor, who belonged to one of the cult groups, requesting his money, and in the process, he was beaten mercilessly.

“In another day, the guy that was beaten saw his debtor in a lonely area, and he immediately opened his head with unidentified objects in retaliation for the previous attack on him.

“Pained by the retaliation, both groups mobilised their members against them, and the brutal killings started within the Ughelli metropolis.

“The issues started last Thursday, while the killing began between Saturday and Sunday. Two people were killed at the Okogbe axis of Otovwodo.

“The other two were killed around Iwhreko and Ogor Park, respectively, on Sunday morning, and it has been a guerrilla operation between both groups,” a source told journalists.

Videos of the killings sighted by our correspondent revealed victims macheted in the head and other parts of the body lying dead in the pool of their own blood.

The Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Edafe Bright, has yet to speak about the killing.

But a security source in the know of the killings confirmed the incident, saying, “We have only confirmed three.”
