Five persons have died in a road accident along the Lagos/Ibadan Expressway.

The spokesperson of the Ogun State Police Command Omolola Odutola said the accident occurred at around 11:30 pm yesterday near Fatgbems Bus Stop.

One other passenger was injured in the accident, reports Channels TV.

“The incident was reported by the Divisional Police Officer of Warewa, involving a reckless driver of an unidentified Mercedes Benz SUV,” she said.

Odutola said that the accident took place as the driver was heading towards the Mowe Bus Stop by Longbridge. But the driver suddenly lost control of the vehicle, crashed into the culvert, and flipped over, landing in the opposite direction.

“As a result, three male and two female adults inside the SUV were confirmed dead, and one passenger sustained injuries. The roof of the vehicle was completely torn off,” the spokesperson added.

“The vehicle was extensively damaged. Traffic police promptly arrived at the scene. Photographs were taken, and the injured individual was transported to AZ Carezone Hospital in Magboro for medical treatment. Meanwhile, the bodies of the deceased were taken to Real Divine Hospital in Ibafo for preservation.”

The police spokesperson said family members of those involved in the fatal incident have been contacted. The command urged road users to exercise caution and drive carefully.
