Burial, candlelight dates announced for late Nollywood actress Tope Osoba

The FrontierThe FrontierAugust 7, 2026 612 Minutes read0

•Late actress Temitope Osoba

The burial arrangements for late Nollywood actress, Temitope Osoba, have been announced, with the actress set to be laid to rest on Thursday, August 13, 2026, in Iperu Remo, Ogun State.

According to a burial announcement shared on her Instagram handle today, the funeral service will hold from 10am to 11am at Saint James Anglican Church, Iperu Remo.

Her interment will take place immediately after the service at Iperu Remo Cemetery.

The family has requested that mourners wear white for the burial ceremony.

Osoba, popularly known for her roles in Yoruba-language Nollywood productions, died at the age of 40.

Her death was announced on Wednesday by fellow actor, Alesh Sanni, who mourned her as his “dearest sister”.

Sanni wrote, “Couldn’t sleep since last night, it’s well. Rest in peace my dearest sister, Temitope Osoba. We had amazing time and good memories together, till we meet again. I really dunno what to say mehn, gosh.”

Another actress, Adeyemo Seilat, also paid tribute to Osoba in an Instagram reel.

She wrote, “Sigh! I hate to hear about the death of young people. Life is vanity! Rest in peace Tope Osoba. May you find eternal rest.”

Friends plan candlelight tribute

Ahead of the burial, friends of the actress have announced a candlelight and artistes night in her honour.

The event, tagged “An Evening of Love, Music & Memories,” will hold on Tuesday, August 11, at LTV 8, popularly known as the Blueroof, in Ikeja, Lagos.

According to a flyer shared on Osoba’s Instagram page, the event will begin at 5pm.

The organisers said the gathering would celebrate Osoba’s life, creativity and contribution to the arts.

“Her voice, her art, her spirit… will remain in our hearts,” they stated.

The event is expected to bring together her friends, colleagues, artistes and other admirers ahead of her final burial.

Osoba’s battle with cancer

Osoba’s death came about two years after she publicly opened up about her battle with cancer and sought support for her treatment.

After announcing her recovery, the actress returned to the movie industry in August 2025.

At the time, she described her experience with cancer as a life-changing journey that had reshaped her life and career.

“Dear beloved fans, supporters, and loved ones, I’m Temitope Osoba, and after my cancer experience, I’m excited to announce my reintroduction,” she said.

She said her new chapter would focus on healing, growth and empowerment and expressed her commitment to using her platform to promote cancer awareness and support others facing similar challenges.

She also thanked her management team for standing by her during the difficult period and said she was open to acting roles, endorsements and event collaborations.

Family warns against death rumours

Meanwhile, Osoba’s family has urged the public and the media to disregard reports about the circumstances surrounding her death that were not authorised by them.

In a statement shared through her official social media page, the family said several claims circulating on social media and blogs were “false, speculative, and entirely unauthorised.”

The family appealed for privacy and time to mourn their loss, stressing that any information it chooses to make public would be released through its official channels or authorised representatives.

The statement was signed by the Family of Awonuga/Osoba.

Osoba was remembered by colleagues and fans for her work in Yoruba-language Nollywood and her contribution to the Nigerian entertainment industry.

She will be buried in Iperu Remo on August 13, two days after friends and colleagues gather in Lagos to celebrate her life through music, art and memories.
