The FrontierThe FrontierAugust 17, 2026 661 Minutes read0

The Ondo State Police Command has arrested a 23-year-old man, Samuel Akoade, for allegedly killing his mother, Mrs. Olufunke Amoo, in Ore, Odigbo Local Government Area of the state.

The Command disclosed this in a brief made available to our correspondent, stating that the tragic incident occurred yesterday, Sunday, August 16, 2026, reports Daily Trust.

According to the police, the 60-year-old woman was found in a pool of blood at her residence with deep machete cuts on her body.

Police operatives from the Ore Division were said to have responded immediately after receiving a report of the incident, securing the scene and commencing preliminary investigations.

The brief revealed that a machete suspected to have been used in the attack was recovered at the scene, while the suspect allegedly fled before the arrival of the police.

However, following a manhunt by operatives, Samuel Akoade was later arrested and taken into custody.

“The remains of the deceased have been deposited at the mortuary, while the suspect remains in custody. The case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Akure, for further investigation,” the statement said.

The Commissioner of Police in Ondo State, CP Felix Ohagwu, directed that a thorough and professional investigation be conducted to establish the circumstances surrounding the killing and ensure that justice is served.

The Command also reassured residents of its commitment to protecting lives and property and urged members of the public to provide timely information on suspicious activities within their communities.
