Workers hold victory rally for Governor Adeleke, back Tinubu’s second term bid

Osun workers, under the auspices of Organised Labour, yesterday converged on the entrance to the State Secretariat at Abere, Osogbo.

They held a rally for Governor Ademola Adeleke’s electoral victory, attributing his return to office to his administration’s workers-friendly policies and improved welfare of pensioners, reports The Nation.

The jubilant workers also restated support for the re-election bid of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the January 16, 2027 poll.

Led by the state Chairman of the Osun State chapter of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Christopher Arapasopo, they described the outcome of the Saturday governorship election as a collective victory for workers, pensioners and the people.

He urged Adeleke not to relent in fulfilling the promises made during his electioneering campaign, stressing that workers and pensioners expect his administration to do more.

Arapasopo also commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for what he described as allowing a free and fair electoral process in the state.

He said: “The president has demonstrated that truly he is the son of the soil. We are proud of him because he has demonstrated that, yes, he is the father of the nation.”

The Labour leader said the state workers’ union was proud of the president and declared its support for his second-term bid, arguing that allowing the people’s votes to count demonstrated Tinubu’s commitment to democracy.

The Chairman of the Osun State Joint Labour Congress (JLC), Olamilekan Adediran, urged Adeleke to sustain his policies and continue prioritising workers’ welfare.

He claimed that workers and pensioners had not experienced such a favourable working relationship with the state government in years, describing Adeleke’s administration as one that had positively affected the lives of workers and pensioners.

Adediran said: “We have not been having it so good like this for decades. If you talk of Adeleke’s government, the regime is so sweet and he is okay with the workers. He is taking good care of the workers and the pensioners.”

He stressed that the jubilation following the election reflected the satisfaction of workers and residents with the governor’s performance.

Chairman of the Osun State Council of the Trade Union Congress (TUC), Abimbola Fasasi, described Adeleke’s victory as both an act of God and a testament to the goodwill the governor had built during his tenure.

The Labour leaders stressed that Adeleke’s victory should serve as motivation for the governor to consolidate his achievements and further prioritise workers’ welfare, pensions, housing and improved remuneration.
