2027 elections: If ADC can’t perform, don’t vote for us — Former Governor Amaechi tells Nigerians

The vice presidential candidate of the African Democratic Party (ADP), Rotimi Amaechi, has asked Nigerians to choose capacity when making their choice in the 2027 general election, saying they should not vote for the party if it cannot perform.

Amaechi said this during a panel session at the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) 2026 Annual General Conference taking place in Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital, reports Channels TV.

“ADC provides a different kind of leadership completely. If we can’t perform, don’t vote for us,” the former Rivers State governor told the gathering yesterday.

His comment came months before the 2027 general elections, with calls for the opposition to present a united front to unseat the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

Last year, the opposition met in Ibadan, Oyo State, where they agreed to field a single candidate for the presidential election. However, the opposition has failed to pick a flagbearer for next year’s poll.

At the NBA Conference, Amaechi explained that a coalition became difficult due to the inability of candidates to reach a consensus.

“Coalition as it is today is difficult to achieve. If it is possible, I am sure that Vice President Atiku Abubakar would be willing to participate. But the difficulty in it is that everybody has ambition; nobody wants to give up. There are very few politicians who are in love with Nigeria. What the politicians are doing is to just come in and milk the country dry,” he said.

The former minister, however, defended his record in public office, saying the projects done by his administration in Rivers State are still visible.

Amaechi, who represented the ADC presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, asked Nigerians to shun ethnicity and assess candidates based on their track record.

“A coalition should be based on performance,” he said.

“Assess us by our last performance and choose; not just vote because you are from Ikwerre or Omoku and choose your candidate,” the ADC vice presidential candidate said.
