ROMANCE GONE SOUR: I love my wife so much that I can’t concentrate at work

The FrontierThe FrontierAugust 29, 2026 101 Minutes read0

A father of two claimed his deep love for his wife affected his ability to focus at work.

Aminu Kabiru made the remark before a Shari’a Court in Kaduna, Kaduna State, while responding to his estranged wife’s application for divorce through Khul’i proceedings.

Aminu told the court that his affection for his wife was so overwhelming that it distracted him from work and limited his earning capacity.

“I could not provide enough for my family because of the intense love I have for my wife,” he told the court.

The defendant pleaded for more time to reconcile with his wife, saying their marriage should be saved for the sake of their young children.

He urged the court to consider the welfare of the children, both of whom are under two years old.

His wife, through her counsel, Abubakar Jibril, insisted that she no longer wished to remain in the marriage.

Jibril informed the court that the woman had lived in her parents’ home for the past eight months without receiving care or support.

The lawyer said: “The couple got married in 2024 and is blessed with two children.

“One child is 16 months old, while the other is just two months old.”

According to Jibril, the complainant was prepared to return the N100,000 dowry she received to redeem herself from the marriage.

“The complainant is no longer interested in the marriage and is ready to return the dowry she received,” he told the court.

The presiding judge, Malam Mu’awiya Shehu, sought clarification on the dowry amount mentioned by the complainant.

Kabiru confirmed that the N100,000 figure was correct but argued that his expenses before the wedding exceeded the dowry.

He told the court that he spent substantial sums on his wife before their marriage and wanted those costs considered.

The judge subsequently adjourned the matter to allow Aminu submit details of the expenses he claimed to have incurred.

The case is expected to resume with the court examining the husband’s claims before determining the divorce application.
