The duo came under attack by the armed men at Woko Village which led to the death of Babagiwa while the Inspector sustained machete injuries but managed to escape.

The state NIS Command says that the Inspector is stable and responding to treatment.

Babagiwa’s remains were discovered in a burnt state two days after the attack. He has since been buried in accordance with Islamic rites.

The Command confirmed the incident in a statement signed by its Public Relations Officer, DSI Muktar Abubakar, on behalf of the Comptroller of Immigration Service, Niger State Command.

The Niger State Police Command also confirmed the attack.

Despite the killing, the NIS State Command reiterated its commitment to combating irregular migration and addressing other security challenges along the international border stressing that it remains resolute in discharging its statutory responsibilities despite the prevailing security challenges in the area.
