BREAKING: Meeting with FG in deadlock, strike continues – Varsity union

The FrontierThe FrontierMarch 21, 2024 2600 Minutes read0

The just concluded meeting between the Senior Staff Association Of Nigeria University (SSANU) and federal government has ended in deadlock, with SSANU insisting strick action continues.

Yesterday, the National president (SSANU) Muhammed Ibrahim said the strike continues today, reports Nigerian Tribune.

Recall that SSANU and NASU embarked on a seven-day nationwide strike on Monday to protest the refusal of the federal government to pay their four-month salaries withheld for embarking on strick action in 2021.

Ex-President Buhari refused the associate of their salary because they refused to work meaning they are not entitled to salary, Buhari insisting on the principle of ‘No work; no pay’.

President Bola Tinubu’s administration reversed the ‘no work; no pay’ policy of the previous administration and released the salaries of members of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) that were previously withheld.

However, this action did not please SSANU and NASU, who felt that their members should also be compensated for their work.

Despite repeated demands for better pay and conditions, the government continued to ignore the needs of SSANU and NASU members. In response, the unions initiated a strike to force the government to take action.
