Edo information commissioner Afegbua debunks illness rumour

•Kassim Afegbua

Edo State Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Prince Kassim Afegbua, has denied rumours circulating on social media that he is critically ill and bedridden.

The claim was made by a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and online commentator, Albert Obazee, who alleged that Afegbua was seriously sick and receiving visits from prominent members of the All Progressives Congress (APC), reports Daily Independent.

In a video circulating earlier, Obazee said:

“Information reaching me now is that Kassim Afegbua is very sick. Kassim Afegbua is battling with his life as we speak. In fact, the APC person who informed me said Kassim said he doesn’t understand why he has been this sick.”

Responding through a video posted on Tuesday, Afegbua dismissed the claims as false, describing Obazee as a “pathological liar” who he said thrives on misinformation.

The commissioner maintained that he has been in sound health and at work throughout the day.

“Good afternoon my good people of Edo State. I have decided to release this video just to make the point that one noisemaker, Albert Obazee, who lives and feeds on social media, is actually a confirmed liar. I am right here working in my office. I have been sitting here since 10am in the morning,” Afegbua stated, while filming himself at his desk.

Visibly displeased with the rumour, the commissioner placed a curse on the PDP member, insisting that the false claims made against him would rebound on Obazee.

“All the nonsense he posted on social media, saying that his father, mother and children are not well — may God continue to make them unwell,” he said.

“I want to place a curse on Albert Obazee and he will know that I am a true son of Afegbua from Okpella in Edo State. That wish that you gave to me, that wish will bounce on your head.”

Afegbua urged members of the public to disregard the health rumour and assured that he remains active in office.

He also enjoined the people of Edo to continue their support for Governor Monday Okpebholo, who according to him is working tirelessly to clear the rot left behind by his predecessor, Godwin Obaseki.
