The federal government has approved the promotion of 20,867 senior officers across various ranks in paramilitary agencies under the Ministry of Interior.

The Civil Defence, Correctional, Fire, and Immigration Services Board (CDCFIB) announced this on Friday in Abuja.

Addressing newsmen after the board’s meeting, which started yesterday, the Secretary of the Board, Ja’afaru Ahmed, noted that the promoted officers come from all the agencies under the board’s jurisdiction, reports Nigerian Tribune.

“The board considered and approved the promotion of 20,867 senior officers across the ranks, from Inspector to Assistant Superintendent, to Controllers and ACG in the NCoS, NIS, Federal Fire Service, and NSCDC,” Ahmed said.

He specified that 5,339 officers were promoted in the Nigerian Correctional Service, 5,112 in the Nigeria Immigration Service, 489 in the Federal Fire Service, and 9,937 in the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps.

“The board also, along with the 2024 promotions, considered and approved the grant of special promotions to two officers in the Nigerian Correctional Service, four officers in the NIS, one officer in the Federal Fire Service, and two officers in the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps for their outstanding service, integrity, and honesty, as well as for improving the image of their respective agencies,” he added.

Additionally, he said the board had considered and approved the monitoring and evaluation of career development courses, among other initiatives.

Ahmed further reiterated the board’s commitment to concluding the 2023/2024 Federal Fire Service recruitment before the end of September.
