Security operatives arrest 10 suspects on INTERPOL’s watchlist

The FrontierThe FrontierDecember 11, 2024 2681 Minutes read0

In a significant boost to Nigeria’s national security, the federal government has announced the arrest of 10 suspects on INTERPOL’s watchlist.

Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo disclosed this in Abuja yesterday when President Bola Ahmed Tinubu inaugurated the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) Technology Innovation Complex.

“In the last couple of days, there were 10 people who were on the INTERPOL and immigration wanted list who were apprehended in one week,” the minister said as quoted by TheCable.

These individuals were apprehended while attempting to enter Nigeria within just one week, thanks to the efforts of security operatives and the newly installed Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) Technology Innovation Complex.

The minister revealed that the new facility will enable the government to ascertain the risk level of persons entering the country, detect irregular migration patterns, and monitor unmanned borders.

The complex is also equipped with a 0.5KW solar power plant, which is expected to save the country over N300 million annually.

The president has commended the NIS for its efforts, stating that the new technology will help Nigeria harness technology to drive development.

The country is expected to achieve a 100% new passport regime by 2025, with the passport being treated as a security document rather than just a travel document.
