Kano uncovers roots of thuggery, brings rival groups together for peace

The Kano State Government has reiterated its commitment to finding a lasting solution to thuggery just as it announced that it has uncovered the root cause of recent violence that disturbed the peace in the state.

This was revealed in a statement today y by Director of Public Enlightenment, Kano Government House, Usman Gwadabe.

According to the statement, the Director General of the Special Services Directorate, AVM Ibrahim Umar (retd.), made the disclosure after a high-level meeting with leaders of rival thugs from Kofar Mata, Yakasai, Zango, and Fagge, as well as Ward Heads.

The meeting, held yesterday at the Kano Government House, sought to address the surge in violence.

“Activities of thugs were believed to have been triggered by unemployment, drug abuse, and political motives, especially from members of the opposition political party who reside in Abuja,” the DG was quoted as saying.

He disclosed that the faction leaders had agreed to unite under a single umbrella to restore peace in their communities for the collective benefit of Kano residents.

Expressing his gratitude, Umar praised God Almighty for enlightening the thugs, who have now recognised that they were being exploited by politicians intent on sowing chaos.

He noted their pledge to collaborate with the present administration to ensure stability and tranquillity.

“They also understood that causing trouble would not augur well for the economic growth of the state,” the DG emphasised.

He further revealed that the youths had resolved to abandon thuggery and focus on developmental pursuits for their progress and that of Kano.

Umar urged the former thugs to renounce violence and embrace peace, assuring them that Yusuf’s administration would support them in transforming their lives positively.

In a gesture of goodwill, he announced that the government would cover medical expenses for those injured during the clashes.

“I call on the opposition party to stop digging its grave by sponsoring violence. 2027 is approaching, and the electorate will only vote for a party that promotes peace, love, and tranquillity in the state,” he warned.

Meanwhile, the leaders of the rival thugs, Jibrin Aminu Yakasai and Abdulrazak Sani Abdulkadir (Danmallam), vowed to end the violence in their communities.

They appealed to the government to create job opportunities for unemployed youths, emphasising the need for meaningful engagement to integrate them as valuable members of society.
