The Achievers University, Owo, Ondo State has warned new students of the institution against involving in acts that could make them lose their studentship.

The Vice Chancellor of the university, Prof. Omolola Irinoye, gave this warning at the 18th matriculation ceremony of the institution which took place on Friday at the school auditorium, reports Saturday PUNCH.

No fewer than 1,133 new students took the matriculation oath of the varsity during the ceremony.

According to the don, social vices such as cultism, drug abuse, examination malpractice, indecent dressing, and sexual harassment among others were not allowed on the campus.

The vice chancellor declared that any student found guilty of any act of indiscipline would be adequately dealt with and handed over to the proper authority, noting that the student’s disciplinary committee was ready to sanction any student who flouts any of the school rules and regulations.

She said “The university has zero tolerance for examination malpractice, cultism, drug abuse and any form of social misconduct. Students caught engaging in any of these vices run the risk of expulsion from the university.

“It is no news that Achievers University upholds the highest standards of academic integrity, discipline and ethical conduct. We expect you to demonstrate diligence in your studies, respect for university regulations and a commitment to personal and professional development.”

Irinoye who stressed the importance of attending classes noted that lateness to classes or failure to attend classes attract grave punishment, saying “We take attendance at lectures very seriously and failure to meet 75 per cent attendance is automatic carryover or repeat of the session as applicable.”.

Similarly while speaking, the Pro-Chancellor of the university, Dr Bode Ayorinde, reiterated that the varsity had zero tolerance for social vices and indiscipline.

“We have zero tolerance to violence in any form including fighting, bullying, harassment, and. use of hard drugs. Any student caught in any of these vices faces the risk of expulsion from the university, and such students will be handed over to the police for prosecution,” the pro-chancellor warned.
