EXPLAINER: Why national grid is trending on X

The FrontierThe FrontierFebruary 12, 2025 2381 Minutes read0

The national grid is trending on X following reports of a power disturbance across parts of Nigeria.

While many initially feared a total collapse, authorities have clarified that it was only a disruption, reports Nigerian Tribune.

Confirming the situation, the National Grid issued a statement on X:

“There was a ‘GRID DISTURBANCE’ before noon today. Parts of the country experienced an outage. Further information shortly.”

Meanwhile, this is the second time in 2025 that the grid has experienced a “non-collapse.”

The first incident occurred on January 11, when power output dropped from 2,111.01MW to 390.20MW.

While authorities insisted it wasn’t a total collapse, experts described it as a partial failure.

The extent of today’s output drop is yet to be confirmed, but electricity remains stable in some parts of the country.

However, the latest disturbance has sparked reactions on X, with many users expressing frustration and skepticism over the recurring issue.

@Ogo_Oluwa9 wrote:

“Opari, national grid again.”

@realtybybandy joked about the situation:

“I almost complained that this light was getting too constant… I knew this thing would soon collapse… National Grid isonu.”

@OgaGreat from Abuja questioned the situation:

“The way our light went off here in Abuja?? National Grid?????? Hope it’s not you!!!!!”

Similarly, @Olluwabusayomii reacted: “National Grid don collapse again.”
