Edwin Clark: A symbol of justice, equity, regional development is gone – Presidential hopeful, Abayomi Mighty

The FrontierThe FrontierFebruary 18, 2025 3121 Minutes read0

•Abayomi Mighty

Renowned activist Abayomi Mighty has expressed profound sorrow over the passing of Chief Edwin Kiagbodo Clark, a distinguished patriarch and foremost leader of the Niger Delta, who died at the age of 97 yesterday, Monday, February 17, 2025.

Abayomi lauded Clark’s unwavering commitment to the advancement of the South-South region and his relentless pursuit of justice and equity for the Niger Delta and Nigeria as a whole.

In a statement made available to The Frontier today, Abayomi highlighted Clark’s role as the leader of the Pan Niger Delta Forum (PANDEF), where he championed resource control, fiscal federalism, and regional development. He added that the late sage’s advocacy was instrumental in promoting regional development and fostering stability within Nigeria.

The youthful activist who is eyeing Nigeria’s number one governance seat in the next dispensation, noted that the nation was still mourning Adebanjo’s departure, the news of Clark’s death delivered another profound blow on him and the nation, marking the loss of yet another father figure and a resolute voice in our nation’s discourse.

He recounted Clark’s roles both before and after Nigeria’s independence, he emphasised his service as a Federal Commissioner for Information and his active participation in the political process during the pre-independence period.

He extended his heartfelt condolences to the Clark family, the people of the Niger Delta, and the entire nation, adding that Clark’s demise has left a void that will be challenging to fill, which underscores the elder statesman’s enduring legacy as a champion for justice, equity, and regional development.
