Nollywood actress Tonto Dikeh has opened up about her relationship with God, addressing misconceptions about her Christian faith, saying it began long before her public transformation and increased involvement in ministry.
Speaking during an interview on Real Talk With Kike, Tonto noted how people wrongly assume she recently gave her life to Christ, unaware that she had always been in Christ.
According to her, her spiritual journey began when she was much younger. She said she knew God at 17 and was once on the path to being ordained a pastor.
“Everything I said God told me; he told me in private. There’s a misconception about when I came out and when I gave my life to Christ; I’ve always been with Christ, to the point where I was going to be ordained a pastor at 17 years old”.
“When I came out was not the time that I rededicated my life to God,” she said.
She described an earlier period in her life as a “Pruning stage”, explaining that it was a time when God was working on her privately before she began sharing her spiritual experiences publicly.
“That was the time when God had to take me through, so all the things I say God told me, it has to be private. It was a private praise that bettered the public announcement.”
Concluding her remarks, the evangelist stressed the importance of helping people maintain their connection with God rather than making them feel distant from Him.
“The worst thing anybody can do to this generation is make them feel they are far from God.”
Recall that Tonto, since turning 40 last year, has embraced a Christian life and sent the internet into a frenzy when she unveiled her new ministry, New Wine Prophetic Tabernacle (NWPT), in Abuja.
She described the ministry as an interdenominational altar dedicated to prayer, revival, spiritual training, and the awakening of consecrated believers.
