Ex-militant leader, Asari Dokubo, Ijaw youths warn Wike, State Assembly against impeaching Governor Fubara

•Dokubo, Wike and Fubara

Former Nigerian Separatist warlord and ex-leader of the Niger Delta People Volunteer Force, Alhaji Mujahid Asari Dokubo, and the Ijaw Youth Council (IYC) have urged President Bola Tinubu to caution the Minister of Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, against pushing his selfish ambition on Rivers State.

In a viral video yesterday, Dokubo told the president that if he allows Wike to push his selfish agenda on Rivers people, it would be very difficult for him (Wike) and the 27 lawmakers to enter the state, reports The Guardian.

Dokubo, who has been a central figure in the Ijaw cause, forming one of the Delta’s most notorious Ijaw militant groups in 2003 but now a monarch in Degema Local Council of Rivers State, vowed that it will be very difficult for anyone to impeach Governor Siminalayi Fubara who is an Ijaw son.

He reminded the president that the “furry of Ijaw people doesn’t give a damn.

Also, the Ijaw Youth Council (IYC) has joined forces with other Ijaw groups in their threats to make Rivers State ungovernable if Fubura is impeached.

In a strong-worded statement by the youth body, it warned the Nigerian State that the Ijaws will not stand idly by and watch political and ethnic gimmicks unfold in Rivers with the sole intent of truncating the administration of the Governor, an illustrious son of the Ijaw nation.

Meanwhile, the state government has responded to the Assembly’s letter regarding the Supreme Court judgment and the 48-hour ultimatum to present the 2025 Appropriation Bill.

The Siminalayi Fubara-led state government had disclosed that it is yet to receive a letter from the State House of Assembly regarding resolutions made under the Supreme Court judgment delivered on February 28, 2025.

In a statement issued by the Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Tammy Wenike Danagogo, the government revealed that as of March 4, 2025, neither the Office of the Governor, Deputy Governor nor the Accountant-General had received the letter.

Danagogo noted that the Governor, Siminalayi Fubara had earlier stated, in a state broadcast on March 2, 2025, that he would obey and implement the Supreme Court’s decisions, despite his personal opinions on the matter.

However, in response, the state Assembly stated that the said letter was sent to the recipient on the same day it was issued.

However, a former Inspector General of Police (IGP), Dr. Mike Mbama Okiro, yesterday, appealed for peace in Rivers State, warning that continued political conflict could turn the state into a battleground, threatening its economic strength and stability.

Okiro stressed that no leader can govern amid war, urging all stakeholders to recognise the necessity of peace.

The former IGP urged traditional rulers, religious leaders, and other influential figures in the state and across Nigeria to intervene, emphasising that a peaceful resolution is achievable through constructive dialogue.

He also stressed the importance of respecting court orders in resolving disputes.
