Jesus chose me from the streets to bring hope to the hopeless through my music – Chidon

•Chidon GPM

Chidon GPM is poised to revolutionise the Nigerian music space as he drops the video of his new single “Plenty Plenty.” As the latest entrant, Francis Chidi Ijeomah, popularly known as Chidon GPM, is introducing a fresh genre of music called GOD’S POP, a fusion of gospel and pop music.

Unveiling the video of his new single in Lagos, Chidon said the essence of his music is to ‘give hope to the hopeless, reports Saturday Vanguard.

“My song has come to stay in Nigeria. It is to bring hope to the hopeless. The people who are suffering, when they listen to my music, they will have hope. What makes my song different is that some terms I used in the song are the ones people use on the street. I am not religious because I know people from different religions listen to secular music. So I felt we could bring all of them together with gospel music mixed with hip-hop,” the singer said.

He added, ”My music is not ordinary music, It’s a fusion of gospel and pop music called GOD’s POP. I am different from other gospel artists. This is not gospel music, it’s gospel from the street.

“The youth are turning their face against God because many musicians are making secular music, so I believe when they listen to my song, most of them would be forced to turn back to God. So my song is a gospel song made from the street just like Jesus Christ. He was born on the street, the miracles he performed were done on the streets, everything he did were from the streets. So, Jesus chose me from the streets to bring hope to the hopeless.”

Born into a Christian home in Ideato, Imo State, Chidon’s Christian upbringing has significantly influenced his brand of music. His goal is to give hope to the hopeless through his music, which he believes will bring people from different religions together.

“While growing up, my late dad made us understand God. He brought me closer to God. I know about his mercy and what he has done for me. As a young lad, I listened to Phyno. Sometimes he makes gospel music and sometimes he makes secular music. So I have some songs I would like to feature,” he said.

Chidon GPM returned to the country last year to pursue his career in music after spending 19 years abroad. His music style is unique, blending gospel music with hip-hop and using street terms to make it relatable. He’s not just another gospel artist; his music is from the street, and he’s confident it will impact society. With plans to collaborate with notable Nigerian musicians, especially Phyno, Chidon GPM is definitely one to watch in the music industry. His manager, Onyika Emmanuel, aka MC Senator, praises Chidon for being the originator of this fresh genre of music.
