Over twenty people, including women and children, are feared killed, with others still missing, in an attack on Aper Village in Mangu Local Government Area of Plateau State.
The attack occurred in the early hours of today, making it the third attack recorded in Mangu in the past week, reports Channels TV.
One person was shot in the previous attack, according to local sources.
But the Public Relations Officer of the Plateau Police Command, Alfred Alabo, confirmed the attack, saying the initial figure received by the command was 18 casualties.
Alabo, however, said the figure is believed to have risen to more than 20, as further details emerge from the affected community.
He added that the Commissioner of Police in Plateau, Faniyan Ayodeji, and his team are currently on their way to the scene to assess the situation.
The latest attack has heightened concerns among residents, who are calling on the government to strengthen security and protect communities from further attacks.
